Perika or Puragiri Kshatriya is a caste with population spread across the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh. It is considered a sub-caste of the Kshatriya class. The caste is believed to belong to the trading and agricultural class historically. The word Perika translates to "arrangement of sacks" using which the agricultural and other goods were transported from one place to another.[1]

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana[edit]

Perika hostels have been constructed across the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state, with one in Hyderabad. The Perika Vidyarthi Vasathi Gruham at Khairatabad, Hyderabad is a home to many students belonging to the caste who aspire to build careers in the city.

The community is represented politically by many legislators like Gampa Govardhan, who had consistently been from the Kamareddy constituency since 1995.

Allam Narayana a famous Telugu journalist, poet and columnist who was the chief editor of Namaste Telangana also belongs to the Perika caste.
