"Put Me in a Movie" is a song by American singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey for her debut studio album, Lana Del Ray (2010).[1] It was written by Del Rey, while production was handled by David Kahne.

Background[edit]

In early 2007, 5 Points Records talent scout Van Wilson found Del Rey (Lizzy Grant at the time) singing at a songwriting conference in Brooklyn. He later then introduced her to the founder of 5 Points Records, David Nichtern. Both Wilson and Nichtern agreed that Del Rey had the potential to become a major breakthrough and signed her to a record contract. While early-planning for the album, Lana Del Rey recorded multiple demo tracks that were sent to various producers before reaching David Kahne. After hearing the demos, Kahne agreed to work with Del Rey on her album. Originally, the album was planned to be produced by Steven Mertens before Kahne reached out to work on the album. While working on the album with Kahne, Del Rey had said: "We were pretty obsessive about it". In a course of three months, the two worked on the album before completing it. When discussing the vibe and sound of the record, Del Rey wanted the record be a cinematic experience and to reflect her affection for nostalgic imagery, she later said "[Kahne] kind of got my whole vibe straight away."

Writing and composition[edit]

The entirety of the lyrics were written by Del Rey herself. The story-line of the song is about a little girl in the Hollywood industry being taken advantage of. When taking a quick examining at the lyrics, the song can be about the indication of child sexual abuse. The song lyrics were also inspired from one of Del Rey's favorite books, “Lolita”.
