Putts Bridge Hydro (shortened to Putts Bridge) is a hydroelectric power plant on the Chicopee River in the town of Ludlow, Massachusetts. It was built in 1918 and is now owned by Central River Powers LLC.[1]

Dam[edit]

The dam (also known as Wallamanups Falls) crosses the Chicopee River in a roughly north-south direction. Its dimensions are approximately 223 feet long by 22 feet high. The Intake has six motorized head gates, which lead water to an underground conduit that takes the water to the powerhouse forebay.[2]

Powerhouse, Forebay and Tailrace[edit]

The powerhouse is a concrete substructure with 5 units (generators/turbines). No. 1 was never installed, but there is a turbine pit for it, No. 2 and No. 3 are both operating, No. 4 is retired, and No. 5 is a retired waterwheel. The forebay is a 40 feet wide by 104 feet long by 41.5 feet tall reinforced concrete structure with a 2.5 foot spigot type gate at the bottom of the forebay. The tailrace runs 355 feet back to the Chicopee River from the powerhouse.[2]The tailrace runs 355 feet back into the Chicopee River.
