Pyramidal composition

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Pyramidal composition is a visual composition technique used in the visual arts, paintings and photography.

During the Renaissance artists used this technique to create a vision of strength and stability[1], notable examples include Masaccio's Trinity, Leonardo's Last Supper, Michelangelo's Pietà and Titian's Pesaro Madonna.

In pop culture the pyramidal composition has been used in movie posters and video game covers like Star Wars[2], Conan the Barbarian[3] and Duke Nukem 3D.[4]

To achieve a pyramidal composition you place the object of focus in the middle of the frame and elevate it, surrounding it with supporting objects to both sides and below, possibly using leading lines to direct attention inward to the middle of the image and up to the focus. This method creates an imaginary triangle or pyramid shape in the middle of the image.
