Qixxit

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Qixxit (QT Mobilitätsservice GmbH) is an online intermodal travel planner and booking platform that was founded in December 2016.[1]. The software combines trains, flights and long-distance buses into one coherent route, offering new travel options to places that used to be hard to reach[2]. The company is based in Berlin, Germany.

History[edit]

DB Digital Ventures group started developing the mobility portal Qixxit[3] in 2012, focusing mainly on urban mobility.

The Qixxit app was launched in July 2014, both for desktop and as an app for iOS and Android. The mobility portal, designed as a personal travel companion, combined different means of transportation in order to find the best connections from A to B within Germany. The Qixxit app integrated long-distance bus, train, plane, city bus, underground and tram as well as car sharing, car hire, bike rental, and taxi.

In December 2016, DB AG founded QT Mobilitätsservice GmbH[4] in Berlin, which decommissioned the original concept and created a new product, focusing on intermodal city-to-city connections. This put the Deutsche Bahn subsidiary in competition with services like FromAtoB, Omio (formerly GoEuro) and Google Maps[5].

In the beginning of May 2018, the new Qixxit website and mobile apps went live[6].

Qixxit was the first travel planner to integrate ApplePay[7] right after its launch in Germany[8].

Data coverage[edit]

Qixxit is officially available in Germany where it covers the vast majority of the train, bus and flight connections. German coverage is granted by the integration of the main ground transportation providers, such as Deutsche Bahn, FlixBus and FlixTrain[9]. For the airline coverage, Qixxit relies on the flight metasearcher Skyscanner. Thanks to the aforementioned integrations, Qixxit users can travel from Germany to most major European cities without an airport, as well as to all international destinations with an airport.

Qixxit is available in German and English.

Technology[edit]

Qixxit uses the Airline DirectConnect platform from Flyiin[10] to connect to the Lufthansa NDC partner program[11]. Qixxit is the pilot partner of Flyiin[12], pioneering the implementation of the NDC standard for the travel consumer market. Further, Qixxit uses the programming language Elixir to build its product[13]
