Quadrant International

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Founded in 1992, Quadrant is a privately held U.S based company, specializing in all Magnetic Materials and the Assemblies. The company provides services and products to customers in multiple industries, including automotive, consumer electronics, appliance, security, sensing, medical, aerospace, military and etc.[1] Quadrant also works on magnetics-related R&D and has established the Magnetic Force database for general magnet shapes and dimensions. Based on the database from simulations using finite element analysis, Quadrant has built the APP of Quadrant Magnetics Calculator[2] for mobile users as a universal educational tool or simple design tool for calculating the magnetic force, permeance coefficient Pc (or load-line), and demagnetizing factors.[3] Quadrant has been the supplier to many major high-tech companies for uses in their products.

The company currently has over 2500 employees world-wide.[4]

Facilities[edit]

Louisville, Kentucky[edit]

Quadrant's headquarter since year of 2007. This facility focuses on R&D engineering, quality management, assembling, distributing and warehousing of the products. Their R&D engineering services include computer 3D simulation using FEA analysis to design novel magnetic devices and to improve existing ones.

San Jose, California[edit]

Quadrant's R&D Lab since year of 2009 in Silicon Valley. This lab is used to perform magnetic material analysis for magnetic properties, compositions and mechanical performances. The lab mainly focuses on prototyping and engineering evaluations using 3D Molding, FEA Analysis and Quality Control Systems.

The lab uses Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM)[5] and Hysteresis Graph Tester to characterize both hard and soft magnetic materials for their magnetic properties, including Hysteresis loop[6], Permeability curves[7], and Recoil curves. The lab is equipped with an X-Ray coating thickness analyzer manufactured by Oxford Instruments to non-destructively measure metallic coatings such as Copper, Nickel, Zinc etc.[8]

Hangzhou, China[edit]

Quadrant's main manufacturing facility was established in 2010. This location provides manufacturing and assembling lines to support consumer electronics and other high-tech industries. [9] Their manufacturing and testing instruments are mostly adopted from the U.S., Japan, Germany and other European countries.

The facility is also committed to operating on 100% renewable energy.

Manufacturing / R&D[edit]

Quadrant is a supplier of both raw materials and finished magnetic components.

Machining & Finishing[edit]

Quadrant integrates grinding, core drilling, chamfering, EDM and other custom processes into magnet features. Quadrant has its own in-house finishing facility in China. The company performs surface corrosion ability control by applying X-Ray and cross section coating thickness analysis to measure the thickness of metallic coatings on each layer.

Automation[edit]

The company integrates manufacturing and assembling with automation systems, they develop and design automated magnetizing line, automated feeding system for assembling and packaging processes, U-shape lean manufacturing, and automated testing equipments.[4]

Engineering[edit]

Quadrant in the past has developed multi-pole magnetization technologies for motors, sensors and holding applications[10]; high-field magnet assemblies used in medical researches that can reach 2.5 Teslas. And they also implemented a magnetics calculator mobile app[3] to conveniently calculate air-gap force in permanent magnets with steel targets.[2][3]

Products[edit]

The main products that Quadrant offers are magnetic materials, magnetic components and assemblies, PIM, and magnetizing & testing systems.

Quadrant is a manufacturer of multiple types of magnetic materials, including neodymium, samarium cobalt, aluminum nickel cobalt, iron chrome cobalt, and soft magnetic materials. The company also manufactures assemblies, including holding and aligning magnets, halbach arrays, motors, magnetrons, magnetic coupling.
