Quanda Francis, is an American Entrepreneur and Politician that became the first black woman in history to appear on a New York City General Election ballot as a candidate for Mayor of New York City.[1] Francis, a former candidate for mayor of New York City is currently the President of Sykes Capital Management in New York City. Francis announced her campaign for mayor of New York City on October 3, 2020 and the 2021 New York City mayoral election was held on November 2, 2021.
Biography[edit]
Francis received a B.A. from New York University and her M.B.A from Long Island University.[2] Francis is currently an accountant, data scientist, and the president of Sykes Capital Management, a cutting-edge FinTech firm based in New York City. The centerpiece of Francis's education platform included teaching and leveraging emerging technology to prepare students to “take advantage of a 21st Century economy as entrepreneurs instead of as consumers.[3] Francis's education platform also consisted of introducing Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning into the New York City K-12 education system in an effort to identify student learning styles for the purpose of improving academic outcomes. Francis discussed plans for modernization of New York City’s social and economic infrastructures; and the Integration of Data into her vision of transforming New York City into the world's “Smartest City”. Francis overcame tremendous adversity,” and often speaks about getting pregnant at 17-years old and dropping out of high school to currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Information Science from Long Island University. Francis previously held positions with the New York City Police Department and Small Business Administration in addition to owning several other small companies. Francis has been affiliated with the PhD Project, the American Accounting Association, the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners the Princeton Club of New Yorkand the National Association of Black Accountants. Francis was Global Women in Banking and Finance 2020 Global Community Development Honoree and she received the 2021 Madam C.J. Walker Global Citizen Award.[4]
