Queen Iduna of Arendelle is the fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' Frozen, and its sequel Frozen II. She is voiced by film's director and writer Jennifer Lee in Frozen[1] and American actress Evan Rachel Wood and, when young, Delaney Rose Stein in Frozen II.[2][3] She is the mother of protagonists Anna and Elsa.[4][5]

As a child, Iduna grew up in an enchanted forest with the Northuldra tribe. The Northuldras have the ability to manipulate the spirits of fire, earth, air and water, which made the Arendellians uneasy. The king of Arendelle led his people into the enchanted forest, under the mask of a potential alliance. The Northuldra welcomed them, and the king offered to build them a dam, claiming it would seal the alliance, when all it did was weaken their magical abilities. After the ceremony ended, the king murdered one of the Northuldra. This started a war between them, which angered the spirits. The spirits sent fires and floods through the forest. The prince of Arendelle, Agnarr, nearly fell off of a cliff, but a mysterious being, turning out to be Iduna herself, saved him. After the battle, when some of the Arendellians retreated, the spirits put an impenetrable barrier up around the forest, locking the Northuldra and some of the Arendellians inside. However, Agnarr's father died, making him king, and Iduna snuck after Agnarr. Many years later, they married and had Elsa and Anna as their children.
