Quill is a London-based content production platform for ecommerce businesses.[1]

History[edit]

Quill was founded by Ed Bussey [2]in 2011[3]. Bussey has stated that it was his experience as former Global Marketing Director of figleaves.com that inspired him to found Quill, noting that the website was missing ‘the online equivalent of a shop assistant: the content that helps consumers make informed purchase decisions[4]’.

In 2013, Quill received £1 million in funding from Ariadne Capital[5] . In 2014, Quill closed a further £5 million in funding from Smedvig Capital[6]. In July 2017 Quill announced it had raised a total of £10 million to date, after closing a Series B round with Panoramic Growth Equity[7].

In May 2019, Quill Content was aquired by French media group, Webedia[8].

Leadership[edit]

In 2000, Quill CEO & Founder, Bussey (link to Ed’s page) founded figleaves.com, one of the early online fashion retailers[9]. In 2004, figleaves.com was named “UK Internet Retailer of the Year”[10]. In 2010 the company was bought by N Brown Plc[11].

Following figleaves, Bussey become Chief Operating Officer at ZYB[12], with responsibilities for marketing, business development and operations.

  • Quill was listed on the Deloitte 2017 Technology Fast 500 EMEA rankings of the fastest-growing technology companies in the region[16]
  • Quill was ranked in the 2015 and 2016 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 listings of the fastest-growing UK technology companies[17]
  • Quill was named in the 2015 Unilever Foundry 50 listing of world’s top 50 marketing technology start-ups[18]
  • Quill was ranked in the 2014 Santander Breakthrough50 listing of the UK’s most exciting fast-growth companies[19]
  • Quill was ranked in the 2014 Everline Future 50 listing of disruptive British businesses[20]
