RAE is a Brazilian bimonthly scientific journal based in São Paulo, Brazil. RAE features peer-reviewed research from a variety of academic disciplines, mainly in Business Management and Business Administration.

RAE-Revista de Administração de Empresas (Journal of Business Management), published by FGV´s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration, was launched in 1961 and is published uninterruptedly ever since.

RAE is a generalist review designed for professors, researchers and students, and makes its complete collection available to the whole academic-scientific community, with open access.

RAE is bimonthly, continuous flow publication: it is published in January, March, July, September and November. [1][2][3][4]

RAE is the most traditional scientific journal of Administration in Brazil.[5]

History[edit]

Background[edit]

RAE appears as the journal that introduces the first management models to be adopted in research, portraying a new language, a new way to organize sales or production, as well as a new mindset that proposes different social organization in Brazil. Since its launch, relevant features of the journal have been the dissemination of new areas of knowledge in Administration; and the publication of the first empirical research in the Brazilian context. Alongside texts dealing with administrative practices, RAE is also a space for political-social debates and reflective and critical articles.[6]

Creation[edit]

The first number of RAE indicated the presence of foreign authors, several linked to the Michigan State University, an institution that participated in the foundation and development of FGV´s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration; articles that can be identified with the thematic areas of Administration, in particular, Marketing, Finance and Organizational Behavior; and the contact of Brazilian professors with the latest international literature, especially North American, in the field of Management.[7]

Expansion and development[edit]

During the first three periods of administration of the journal, from May-August 1961 to April-June 1968, the directors themselves accumulated the positions of editor-in-chief of the journal. From volume 8, number 28, from July to September 1968, the directors started to count on the help of editors-in-chief, who remained active in the management of the content of the journal until volume 29, number 4, of the year 1989.

In articles published in the 1989 journal (volume 29) onwards, in addition to abstracts in Portuguese, abstracts in English were also inserted.

From the year 1990, during the management of Gisela Taschner Goldenstein, the position of editor-in-chief ceased to exist, and the director of RAE also began to accumulate the position of editor-in-chief of the periodical, a practice continued this way until the present day.

In January 2010, RAE became part of the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and included in the Journal Citation Reports / Social Sciences Edition (JCR), an important academic-scientific index that gathers collections of journals from around the world and annually measures its impact factors (JCR, 2017).

From the year 2011 (volume 51) onwards, RAE resumed its bimonthly periodicity.

With the continuation of the RAE's internationalization process, the magazine carried out several actions for this purpose: the translation of the submission system, the participation of members of foreign institutions in the journal's scientific committee, the publication of articles in three languages, in addition to the publication of a first edition entirely in English.

From the renewal of the scientific editorial board in 2014, there was an increase in the publication of articles in RAE by authors linked to international academic institutions.

From the second issue of RAE of 2016, the 22nd period of editorial management of the journal began, with the editor-in-chief, Maria José Tonelli.[10]

Publication in RAE[edit]

RAE is a pioneer, groundbreaking journal and it has increasingly become a reference in the academic/scientific environment, standing out for its high quality and its academic rigor. Being published in RAE has been known to carry a certain level of prestige in academia.[11]

As with most other scientific journals, papers undergo an initial screening by the editor, followed by peer review (in which other scientists, chosen by the editor for expertise with the subject matter but who have no connection to the research under review, will read and critique articles), before publication. In the case of RAE, they are only sent for review if it is decided that they deal with a topical subject and are sufficiently ground-breaking in that particular field. As a consequence, the majority of submitted papers are rejected without review.

According to RAE's mission statement: RAE’s mission is to encourage and disseminate knowledge in the field of Administration and promote the integration between the Brazilian scientific community and scientific communities around the world.[12]
