Life anEarly d Education
Rahul Kumar was born on July 7th, 1992, in Fatehabad, Haryana, India, to Shivram Singh and Uma Devi. Raised in a middle-class family, his father served for many years at BSNL India before transitioning to a local business. Rahul completed his primary education at LRM Tagore Vidya Mandir and SBP DAV Centenary Public School, where he highly regarded his school principal, Mr. Anshul Taneja.
Early Karate Career (1999–2006)
Rahul began his karate journey in 1999, receiving professional training from his school coach, Sempai Harish Siradhna. Under his guidance, Rahul progressed from school-level competitions to winning his first National Championship Gold Medal in 2006 in Nainital, Uttarakhand. Between 1999 and 2006, he secured numerous gold medals across school, district, and state championships.
Elite Training and National Success
To further his athletic development, Rahul began elite training under his mentor, Sensei Rajnesh Chaudhary. Under Sensei Chaudhary's guidance, Rahul achieved multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals at various national and international championships. In 2007, he earned his 2nd-degree Black Belt from the Shito Ryu Karate School of India and the All India Karate-Do Federation (then the National Federation of India).
International Breakthrough and Recognition
Rahul's career reached a pivotal turning point in 2011 when he was selected for the WKF World Karate Championship in Malaysia. He became the first athlete from Haryana to win a bout at the World Championship, securing a position in the top 100 athletes globally.
Following this achievement, he was honored by the Chief Minister of Haryana, Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, alongside other state ministers. In 2012, he was recognized by the President of India, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. He was also honored by the Prime Minister of Nepal, K.P. Oli, following his performance at the International Karate Championship organized by the Nepal Ministry of Sports in Kathmandu.
Global Competitions and Current Career
Rahul continued to represent the Indian Karate Team on the world stage, competing in the 2013 World Karate Championship in Spain and the Commonwealth Karate Championships in 2015 and 2018 in South Africa. His international accolades include:
- Silver Medal: Australian Open (2015, 2016) in Sydney, Australia
- Gold Medal: Canada Open Karate Championships (2017, 2018) in British Columbia, Canada
Throughout his career as an athlete and official, Rahul has represented India across the the World in all continents including USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa.
In 2021, Rahul relocated to the United States, where he joined the USA National Karate Federation (USA NKF) as a Referee and Judge. He trained under National Coach Sensei John Limcaco and continues to perform under the guidance of Sensei Jorge Caro (WKF Judge), Sensei Charles Sweigart (WKF Referee and USA NKF RC Member), and Sensei Fariba Madani (Head Referee, USA NKF).
