In 1958, during the dieselization period, Yangon Diesel Locomotive Maintenance Depot was constructed for the daily maintenance work of newly purchased (6) Nos. of Alstom diesel locomotives. Afterwards, more diesel locomotives were purchased and more periodical maintenance and overhauling were required for them. Therefore, in 1964, Yangon Diesel Locomotive Maintenance Depot had to perform the duty of Semi-overhauling of diesel locomotives for every 80,000 miles and changed it’s name to Yangon Diesel Locomotive Workshop. As RBEs (Rail Bus Engine) from Japan were arrived in 2003, periodical maintenance, semi-overhauling and overhauling of those RBEs were needed to perform. Then, Yangon Diesel Locomotive Workshop was transformed to RBE Workshop in 2007.
