RDP Technologies Limited, formerly RDP Workstations Private Limited, is an Indian computer hardware company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. Founded in 2012, it manufactures desktop computers, laptops, thin clients, tablets, workstations and servers.[1][2]

History

RDP was incorporated on 3 January 2012 as RDP Workstations Private Limited by Vikram Redlapalli, initially manufacturing low-cost thin client computing products.[2][3] The company was later renamed RDP Technologies Limited.[3]

ThinBook

In August 2016 the company launched the ThinBook, a 14.1-inch laptop priced at 9,999, running Windows 10 on an Intel Atom x5-Z8300 processor. It was developed in association with Microsoft and Intel.[1][4][5] At the launch RDP said it planned a laptop and phablet manufacturing facility in Hyderabad with an investment of about US$2 million, and Telangana IT minister K. T. Rama Rao said the state government would consider a support package for the company.[2]

The ThinBook was reviewed by Gadgets 360 and by Gadgets Now, both of which assessed it as an entry-level device competing on price.[6][7]

In 2018 RDP released the ThinBook 1130, an 11.6-inch model with an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, priced at 10,999. Reviewing it for The Asian Age, Vishnu Sarangapurkar described it as suited to students and basic tasks while criticising its trackpad and speakers.[8]

Government schemes and distribution

In 2021 RDP Workstations was among 19 companies that applied under the Government of India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware.[9][10]

In January 2022 the company signed a national distribution agreement with Iris Global Services.[11] In July 2022 RDP products were among those showcased at Digital India Week in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.[12]

In November 2023 RDP Workstations Private Limited was named among 27 companies whose applications were approved under PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware, administered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.[13][14][15]
