RTGSplus

Between 2001 and 2007, RTGSplus was the Deutsche Bundesbank's liquidity-saving real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system for handling domestic and foreign payments.^[1] It was commissioned on 5 November 2001^[2] as a successor system to ELS and EAF.^[1]^[2]

The system was characterized among other things by the following:

Tendered orders were instantly scheduled in real-time (also through offsetting payments).^[2]
With sufficient coverage, there was a direct transfer of central bank money.^[2]
An RTGSplus credit was immediately final for the receiving participant and was available without restriction.^[2]
RTGSplus used internationally accepted SWIFT standard file formats.^[2]
RTGSplus was open on all TARGET business days from 7 am to 6 pm ECB time for payment processing. Thus RTGSplus was closed only on Saturdays and Sundays and a few holidays.

RTGSplus was replaced by the new Eurosystem (ESCB) clearing system TARGET2 with effect from 19 November 2007. TARGET2 processes all euro payments in the eurozone.
