Rachael Leslie Contreras (born June 27, 1979) is an American writer and disk jockey. She first reached the music industry in 1996 by photographing concerts, bands albums and skateboarders. She soon started volunteering at Orange County, CA's local 'zine, Skratch Magazine where she started as a photographer and worked her way up the ranks to extreme sports advertising. For Skratch, Contreras photographed bands like Blink-182, Pennywise, Bouncing Souls, (Hed)pe, Kottonmouth Kings, The Aquabats. She became involved with the Orange County third wave ska band, abducted where she became their manager booking all concert dates, interviews, and sponsorships. During this time she was also putting on her own concert series at Koo's Cafe in Santa Ana, CA called, "Rachael-O-Rama" booking bands like Rx Bandits, Slightly Stoopid and more.[1]
After over a decade hiatus to get married and have three children, she has written for OC Music News from November 2019 to current interviewing music industry members and writing about local happenings. In September of 2020, she created the "Rachael-O-Rama" series for OC Music News highlighting new music.[2] Contreras was promoted to contributing editor in May of 2021.[3]
After a few successful call-in's and guest appearances, in March of 2021 she was asked by host Jimmy Alvarez of TNN RADIO to be on the co-hosting team for the alternative radio show. There she trades off with Leeza London co-hosting the Sunday afternoon show on KXRN 104.7 with Alvarez from 1-3pm PST.[4] In September 2021, Contreras created "The RachaelORama Show" at KXRN where she plays punk and alternative music on Wednesday nights from 9-10pm PST.[5]
