Rachel Louise Botsman (born February 16, 1978) is a trust expert, author, and lecturer at Oxford University, Saïd Business School.[1] She is known for her ground-breaking ideas on how trust is changing in the modern world.
Early life[edit]
Botsman was born in 1978 in Southgate, England. She attended City of London School for Girls, then studied at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, where she graduated with a Fine Arts degree in 1999. She went on to study at Harvard University in the Graduate School of Arts. She was a teaching assistant at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government to former presidential advisor David Gergen and civil rights organizer Marshall Ganz.
Books[edit]
- What's Mine Is Yours (HarperCollins 2010, co-authored with (Roo Rogers) was the first book to define the ‘sharing economy’ and ‘collaborative consumption.’ It was hailed by TIME as one of the "10 Ideas that Will Change the World".[2]
- Who Can You Trust? (Penguin Business, 2017) charted how technology is the revolutionising trust in the modern world. Praised by Adam Grant, Marc Benioff, Sherry Turkle, and was named one of the best books of the year by Wired.
Podcasts and radio[edit]
Botsman is the host of the Rethink Moments podcast. She also hosted the podcast Trust Issues and was nominated for ‘Interview of the Year’ in the 2020 British Podcast Awards.
Botsman is the host of the BBC series Money, Money, Money! She often appears as a guest on radio and TV programmes including the BBC, NPR and the ABC.

Botsman is contributor to the Harvard Business Review, WIRED and Financial Times, Guardian, The New York Times and other publications.

Speaking[edit]
Botsman has given three popular TED Talks. She has also given talks at world leading conferences including The World Economic Forum, WEF, DLD, and the Aspen Ideas Festival.

Personal life[edit]
Botsman has lived and worked on four different continents, giving her a global perspective on the important issues of our times. She lives in Oxford with her husband, Chris Botsman, two children and her dog.
