Rachel Edwards (born on 25th December 1973) is a British author based in Oxfordshire.
Early life and education[edit]
Edwards was born in Truro and raised in the UK by her mother, a Jamaican nurse, and father, a Nigerian doctor. [1] She completed her bachelor’s degree at King’s College London[2]
[3] where she read French with English BA (Hons).[1][3][4]
Career[edit]
Edwards won a national Arts Council and Royal Literary Fund award for her early attempts at writing full-length fiction. [1][3][4]The award included mentoring by Catherine Johnson (novelist) which was key to her career development. She then worked as a freelance writer for over 12 years.[4] Fourth Estate gained publishing rights to Edwards' debut novel Darling, which was published in May 2018. She was inspired to write Darling after being subjected to racist abuse a few days after the 2016 EU referendum. The novel has been described as 'the first Brexit thriller'. [5] During summer 2020, Edwards wrote the lead column for the Sunday Times Magazine [6]. She is a regular guest at literary festivals and on BBC radio[7][8]. Her’ second novel, Lucky, is to be published in June 2021 by Fourth Estate, an imprint of HarperCollins UK }}</ref>[9]</ref>[10].
She lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, Peter.
