Racing Australia is the peak body for Australian breeding and racing consisting of the six State and two Territory racing authorities which are recognised by the Australian Rules of Racing as Principal Racing Authorities (PRAs).

In September 2014, Racing Information Services Australia Pty Ltd (RISA) purchased the assets of the Australian Stud Book (ASB).   Subsequently on 13 April 2015, RISA along with its assets the ASB and AGT merged with the Australian Racing Board (ARB) to form one entity named Racing Australia Pty Ltd. On 18 September 2015, Racing Australia Pty Ltd ultimately converted from a proprietary company to a public company named Racing Australia Limited. 

The primary objective of the Company is to encourage and promote the Thoroughbred industry which includes the following: 

  1. adopting, administering and amending the Australian Rules of Racing and the Rules of the Australian Stud Book;
  2. ensuring the integrity of Thoroughbred breeding in Australia by maintaining the officially published records of Thoroughbred bloodlines in Australia in the form of the Australian Stud Book complemented by the Australian Rules of Racing;
  3. establishing and conducting a national consolidated Racing Materials and information services business to service the Australian thoroughbred racing industry and other users of Racing Materials, including:
    1. developing a consolidated national uniform and standard system for the collection, processing, storage, dissemination and protection of Racing Materials;
    2. establishing, maintaining participation in such a consolidated national uniform and standard Racing Materials system by the Principal Racing Authorities and all others integral to the successful conduct of such system; and
    3. developing procedures to maximise the integrity, minimise duplication and data cleansing costs, with respect to all Racing Materials collected, processed and disseminated in the conduct of such a system;
  4. maintaining information regarding the ownership and identity of Thoroughbred racehorses for racing in Australia and for export including acting as the Registrar of Racehorses complemented by the Australian Rules of Racing;
  5. to conduct an efficient low-cost operation; and
  6. the allocation of surplus funds by way of non-repayable grants to the Principal Racing Authorities in accordance with the principles of allocation set out in the Racing Australia Constitution for the purposes of encouraging and promoting thoroughbred horse racing in each of the States and Territories of Australia under the control of the various Principal Racing Authorities.
  7. Racing Australia is a Software and Service company building and hosting in a private cloud the Single National System for the Australian Thoroughbred Racing Industry. Every core transaction of the industry on a national basis is now powered by the Single National System; and
  8. Racing Australia is a Bureau Services company delivering over the top of the Single National System a diverse range of services which fully manage the processing and management of industry functions; and
  9. Racing Australia is a content management and licencing company via the compilation of content, provision of systems to manage the content and the Copyright Licencing and Supply of Racing and Breeding Materials content; and

EXECUTIVE TEAM[edit]

Myles Foreman - Chief Executive Officer

Myles has over 25 years' experience in senior executive roles in the Hospitality, Entertainment and Sports industries. He joined Racing Information Services Australia (RISA) in June 2006 in the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer. With the merger of RISA and the Australian Racing Board (ARB) in April 2015, Myles assumed the role of Operations Chief Executive Officer for newly formed Racing Australia. From November 2019 to October 2020 Myles held the role of Acting CEO. He was appointed CEO of Racing Australia in October 2020. Prior to 2006 Myles spent ten years at Ticketmaster in a range of roles including Operations Manager, Chief Information Officer, Ticketmaster International Operations Manager Australasia, General Manager - ticketmaster.com.au and Head of Markets and Development for Australia and New Zealand. Prior to Ticketmaster, Myles spent seven years with Rydges Hotels & Resorts in a range of roles within hotels across Australia before moving to head office in the role of General Manager IT for the hotel group.

David Connell - General Manager – Finance & Commercial

David joined RISA in October 2006 after three and half years as Financial Accountant for Racing Victoria Limited (RVL). Prior to joining RVL, David was Group Accountant for SMS Management & Technology Group from 1994 - 2002. From 1990 - 1994 David was Financial Accountant for Mercy Hospital for Women. Prior to that David held a range of Finance roles. David is a Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA). David is responsible for the financial operations of RISA. In addition David is the Key Person and Responsible Manager of the Thoroughbred Trainers Service Centre (TTSC) Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) as well as day to day operations of the TTSC. With the merger of RISA and the ARB David assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer for Racing Australia.

As part of a new executive structure David was appointed General Manager – Finance & Commercial in November 2020.

Kellie Cook - General Manager – Racing & Breeding Services

Kellie joined Racing Australia in 2016 before being appointed Service Centre Manager in 2017. Kellie is responsible for the range of products and services offered to industry participants and stakeholders across Australia, while continuing to expand the bureau services provided by Racing Australia. Before starting at Racing Australia Kellie was the Australian representative for a London based Bloodstock company. Prior to that Kellie was a senior lecturer at Melbourne Polytechnic (formally NMIT) where she taught all racing courses, from Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand) through to Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer).

As part of a new executive structure Kellie was promoted to the role of General Manager – Racing & Breeding Services in November 2020.

Karen Day - General Manager – Equine Welfare & Traceability

In May 2020 Karen commenced as the first National Equine Welfare & Traceability Executive for Racing Australia with primary responsibility to implement world best practices and safeguarding the welfare and traceability of Thoroughbred racehorses in Australia. Prior to joining Racing Australia ion 2016 Karen was appointed the first Equine Welfare Manager for Racing NSW a role she held until July 2019. Karen has more than 20 years working in Media, Publishing and Marketing, Karen has a multi-disciplined skill set covering business leadership, marketing, consumer and customer data management, sales and operations. In 2015 Karen established a training facility that focused on preparing retired Thoroughbreds for life after racing, predominantly in the sport of show jumping, working with young riders and established international show jumpers.

As part of a new executive structure Karen was appointed General Manager – Equine Welfare & Traceability in November 2020.

Andrew Jackman - General Manager – Technology & Shared Services

Andrew has over 20 years’ experience in technology, sports and events having worked in AFL, NRL, F1, MotoGP, Cycling and Commonwealth Games. His background has provided extensive experience in technology operations/support, sports data management, strategy, project management, infrastructure, and people leadership. He joined Racing Australia in December 2020 in the new role of General Manager - Technology and Shared Services. Prior to joining Racing Australia Andrew was Head of Technology at Champion Data where he was responsible for IT operations, product development, infrastructure and project delivery. Prior to this Andrew held technology leadership and consulting roles at the Australian Project and Consulting Services, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the UCI Track and Road Cycling World Championships.

Matt Orr - General Manager – Legal & Compliance (Company Secretary)

Matt joined Racing Australia as its first dedicated in-house lawyer in March 2017, having previously worked as Legal Counsel at Racing NSW. Prior to that, he was employed at leading law firms Clayton Utz and Holding Redlich, specialising in litigation/dispute resolution and employment/industrial relations. Matt is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association and also has qualifications in business (sport management) and economics. In December 2017, Matt assumed the role of Company Secretary for Racing Australia and its controlled entities.

As part of a new executive structure Matt was promoted to the role of General Manager – Legal & Compliance in November 2020.
