Radio Sangam is a community Radio station based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England in the UK. The station went live on air on the 8th of May, 2016 broadcasting Asian music on the frequency 107.9 in Yorkshire, on DAB Digital in Greater Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, and is well known to Asians who reside in the areas.[1][not in citation given][2]

Overview[edit]
Radio Sangam hosts annual events and or festivals some of which have attracted artists such as Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam, Sherya Goshal, as well as Bhangra artists such as Jasmine Sandlas, Guru Randhawa and Gurdas Mann. Radio Sangam broadcasts 24 hrs a day on the 107.9 FM radio frequency.[5],[6], [7]
A not for profit organisation entirely supported by volunteers, Radio Sangam a community radio station, pursues the same standards in delivery and performance as the commercially inclined stations.
Radio Sangam organizes the annual Sangam Festival: A Celebration of South Asian Heritage which is run by West Yorkshire social enterprise Communities Together every 18th of July to 17th of August.[8],[9], [10]

Having been broadcasting in the UK for over a decade on RSL Licenses, Radio Sangam was officially launched as a permanent radio station going live on air in Huddersfield on the 8th of May, 2016 . On 6th December 2016, Radio Sangam was on the verge of being shutdown when Ofcom (The Office of Communications),the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom accused it of not recording it's output. It was found that part of the relevant disk was damaged so was not able to provide a recording of transmission even though the matter was resolved and Radio Sangam installed a new system and received a warning for breach of it's license. Since conception, Radio Sangam has ensured the occurrence of the South Asian Heritage Month which “seeks to raise the profile of British South Asian heritage and history in the UK through education, arts, culture and commemoration with the goal of helping people to better understand the diversity of present-day Britain and improve social cohesion across the country”.[12]

Leadership[edit]
The annual Sangam festival Director Qaisar Mahmood is the CEO of Communities Together and sister company Radio Sangam, the UK based South Asian community radio station which broadcasts through out the year in Urdu, Punjabi, Sylheti, Arabic, Gujarati and English.[13]
