Radu Oncescu (full name Radu-Mihai Oncescu-Brotea), born April 8, 1991 in Oltenița, Călărași County, Romania, is a Romanian content creator, digital communication specialist and advertiser internationally recognized for monitoring and analyzing the newest features tested and launched by the major social media platforms such as Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Threads, TikTok, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube and YouTube Music.

He is a contributor to Geekout.[1][2], the newsletter managed by Matt Navarra and Martin Bryant, and has been cited in international media outlets such as Business Insider, TechCrunch, The Verge, and Search Engine Land for his insights into social media developments.

Oncescu was born in Oltenița, Călărași County.   • TikTok–Google Partnership

In September 2023 he reported a TikTok experiment integrating Google Search directly into the app’s search interface. His findings were covered by 9to5google[22], Android Central[23], Business Insider[24], Digital lnformation World[25], Mashable[26], Search Engine Land[27], TechCrunch[28], The Drum[29], The Verge, and other outlets.

TikTok US Ltd. later confirmed the test to Business lnsider.

  • 30-Minute TikToks

In January 2024 he identified a global TikTok test allowing uploads of up to 30 minutes, based on an in-app banner.

His screenshot of the feature, later shared by Matt Navarra[30][31][32][33], quickly spread among digital marketing professionals and was reported by international media. Analysts interpreted the feature as a sign that TikTok was moving toward long-form content, similar to YouTube.

  • Google AI Mode in the EU

In August 2025, he first spotted the presence of “AI Mode” in the Google Search app[34][35][36] in the European Union despite the feature not yet being officially released in the region.

  • Threads Text Attachments

In August 2025, he also flagged Meta’s test of a “Text attachment” module for Threads[37][38][39], which allows users to add up to 10,000 characters to posts. Meta later confirmed the test to TechCrunch.

  • Instagram Reels: Picture-in-Picture

In September 2025, Oncescu was among the first to report Meta’s testing of a picture-in-picture mode for Instagram Reels[40][41][42][43]

  • OpenAI Usernames

In October 2025, Oncescu was mentioned by Android Authority[44] and Bleeping Computer[45] for discovering two features under development in OpenAI's ChatGPT app that would allow users to add profile photos and create a username.
