Career

Raf Grassetti is both a digital and traditional artist who has worked in the entertainment industry for over seventeen years. He is one of the best-known digital sculptors in the world and contributed to some of the most successful franchises, winning many awards over the years including best Art Director, best Digital Sculptor, and Video Game of the Year awards. Grassetti launched his career as a traditional sculptor, but he then transitioned to digital sculpting after discovering the power of immortalizing his subjects in digital stone.

Grassetti had an early start to his career back in 2006 working as an artist for the advertising industry for studios in Sao Paulo, where he contributed to more than 30 films as a lead modeler and animator. Around that time he started to be known by his personal work in character design and soon started to work for game studios and design companies creating characters for games, cinematics and toys.

From 2008 until 2011 Grassetti was working as a Freelance artist and contributed to cinematics like Saints Row 2, Rift (video game), Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (video game), The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Retribution, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Risen 2: Dark Waters, Crackdown 2, Tron: Evolution, being able to create characters and build teams around projects to deliver on the vision.

In August of 2011 Grassetti moved to Canada to work as a fulltime Senior Character Artist at BioWare, where he spent most of his time working on the award-winning sci-fi game Mass Effect 3 and the early development of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Because of his expertise in character creation, production and manufacturing, during that time Grassetti also worked on many projects for Hasbro, creating characters for many of their toy lines.

In 2013 Grassetti moved to California to work as a CG Supervisor at Sony Interactive Entertainment (VASG) where he contributed to many titles, including The Order: 1886, Infamous Second Son and Killzone Shadow Fall. He got to collaborate with many different Sony studios, one of them being Santa Monica Studio.

Grassetti had the opportunity to work with Cory Barlog and the SMS team on the reimagining of the acclaimed God of War (franchise) and worked as a Lead Character artist and Art Director for God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022). Winning many awards including Game of the Year[1] and the D.I.C.E. Awards for best Art Direction.

Grassetti has already made a name for himself in the Digital Art space with some high-profile sales, and was one of the top-selling artists in Christie's "Proof of Sovereignty" Auction and Sotheby's "Contemporary Curated" Auction.
