Rafi (Raphael) Nave (born: 20 December 1949; Hebrew: רפי (רפאל) נוה) is an Israeli engineer and former manager in the Israeli high-tech industry,[1] who is a senior researcher in the Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research, Technion.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Rafi Nave was born in Tel-Aviv. He studied in Ironi Hei high school and enlisted in the IDF in 1967. Nave received B.Sc. (with honors) in Electrical Engineering from Technion in 1974, and M.sc. in Electrical Engineering from Technion in 1979.[3]

Career[edit]

Nave started working in Intel Israel as chip design engineer in 1974. He became project manager in 1977 and led the team that developed the Intel 8087 math coprocessor.[4] In 1980 Nave was promoted to general manager of Intel Israel, managing about 200 engineers at the end of his five-year role.[5] Nave moved in 1986 to Intel Santa Clara, California and became Central Engineering Manager. He returned to Intel Israel in 1989 and served in various roles, including Corp Design for Manufacturing manager and End User Components Division (EUCD) Engineering Manager.

After leaving Intel in 1995 Nave continued to work in the Israeli high tech industry as senior manager. He was, among others, vice president of R&D at NDS, vice president and CTO of Tower Semiconductor, where he supervised all the customer services activities.[5][6] He was also senior vice president of R&D at Given Imaging,[3] leading the development and delivery of the company’s capsule endoscopy products PillCam C2 (for the colon) and PillCam SB3 (for the small bowel).

In 2014 Nave joined Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He headed the Bronica Entrepreneurship Center, and three years later he became a senior researcher at the Technion-based Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research. His research focuses on academia-industry relations, industry 4.0 and analysis of start-ups successes and failures.[2]
