Early Life[edit]
Raheim, who was born in New York and raised in Orlando, attended Colonial high school in Central Florida. During his high school days he was ranked amongst the top 30 players in the country (by Street & Smith and Bob Gibbons Reports), a leading candidate for Florida’s Mr. Basketball, and an honorable mention All-American after averaging 26.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4 blocks a game during his senior season.
Unfortunately in the middle of his senior season at Colonial, Raheim suffered a horrific leg injury after being fouled by an opposing player while going up for a dunk. After sustaining two breaks in both his tibia and fibula bones and having a titanium rod inserted into his right leg.
Raheim was told by doctors that it would be very unlikely that he would ever play basketball at a high level again. After missing his entire freshman year rehabilitating his injury, Raheim made an inspirational comeback and played two seasons for the University of South Florida on a full athletic scholarship, before transferring to Florida Atlantic University.
During his senior season, he led the team (17.2 points per game 10.1 rebounds per game and 1.9 blocks per game) to its first ever conference championship, and first NCAA Tournament appearance (2002) in school’s history.
Career[edit]
During his professional career, Raheim has clocked time with the NBA Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat’s pre-season and summer teams respectively. He went on to have a 12 year professional basketball career playing throughout Europe, Asia, playing for some of the top teams in Italy, Spain, Portugal and China to name a few.
During his extensive career, he has earned numerous awards from a European Championship in Portugal for the Top Team Benfica S.L.B (first time in over thirty years), All-Star appearances, a scoring title and a league MVP during his playing tenure respectively. Raheim was also Sponsored by Adidas, Spalding and Sprite as a player, and assisted in promoting, marketing and developing relationships between the community, fans, and corporate sponsors alike.
Personal Life[edit]
After retiring from playing basketball, Raheim has been one of the featured players and coaches on numerous basketball camps, including The Five Star basketball camp respectively. Along with private coaching and mentoring sessions, he conducts his own “Never Give Up” Dreaming (not for profit) camps, where he shares his journeys of basketball and life’s experiences with the youth of today.
In 2016, Raheim created the Dream Basketball Academy, the first of its kind where the Academy trains high school elite talent to take the leap from high school to the pros. In 2017, the Dream Basketball Academy produced the first and youngest player to ever be drafted into the NBA (Terrance Ferguson drafted #27 to the OKC Thunder) from the Australian Basketball League (The NBL).
Raheim was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame in his hometown of Orlando during a ceremony held at his former high school Colonial in 2014. A dual resident of America and Australia, Raheim is currently an entrepreneur, coach and brand ambassador.
