Gameplay[edit]
In Railroad Corporation you first begin as an employee at a transport enterprise in the 19th Century Golden Age of Steam. The aim of the game is to complete several objectives, including building tracks between different cities and supplying the cities with various goods. You can buy different types of locomotives and use research to improve them.[1] By completing the objectives, you proceed to owning your own train business where you can hire and manage staff, build new transportation routes, lobby with politicians and monitor the competition while growing your own business.[2]
Development[edit]
Railroad Corporation is being developed by Corbie Games, which is a Canadian videogames studio[3] known for train games like Bounty Train and Railroad Corporation.[4] The game entered Early Access on 27th May 2019[5] and a roadmap was announced on 4th July 2019, including plans to include a sandbox mode.[6] The sandbox mode went live on 18th July 2019 and allowed players to grow their transport business without timers or objectives. It also included some added features, such as more pre-researched trains, a larger spending allowance and an extended multiplayer map.[7]
Reception[edit]
Railroad Corporation was positively received by press when it entered Early Access. Gamewatcher wrote an article that outlined 4 different things setting Railroad Corporation apart from similar games, including its historical accuracy, as well as its realistic costs and conditions.[8] Eric Mortensen from Gaming Cypher said "Railroad Corporation isn’t just a train simulator, it’s almost like a business tycoon simulator. You’re not just worrying about which trains go where, you’re worrying about what goods you can move from town to town. You’re not just managing trains, you are kind of managing businesses too".[9] Geeky Hobbies praised the game for being good looking, polished and having well-working game mechanics in place.[10]
