Rajabali Kavani (Persian: رجبعلی کاوانی‎; born 1964 in Tehran) is an Iranian-American historian, author, professor, publisher and translator currently living in United States.[1] He is primarily known for his work on Armenians, Dutch and silk trade between Iran and Europe during Safavid Empire.[2][3] He is the founder of Nowruz Publishers LLC.[4]

Background and education

Rajabali was born in 1964 in Tehran in an Iranian Azerbaijani family. He completed his higher education at Darolfonun and Marvi high schools. He attained Tehran University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in history in 1999. He received his Master’s degree from Tehran University (April 2002). The title of his MA thesis is: The Rise and Development of the Noqtavid Movement with Emphasis on the Safavid Period. He received his AMP (Advanced Masters Program) in 2003 from the Leiden University in the Netherlands and the area of his study was: Perso-Dutch Trade Relations with Emphasis on the Remaining VOC [Dutch East India Company] Documents Related to its Activities in Iran. He obtained his Phd degree from University of Tehran (March 2008). The title of his PhD thesis was: The Role and Situation of Persian Armenians from the Fall of the Safavids (1722/1736) into the Beginning of the Perso-Russian Wars (1804).

Professional and Research Experience

He was the visiting professor at Tehran University (2008). He was also Associate Researcher of the TANAP Research Group at Leiden University.[5][6]

English teacher to future PhD and MA history students at Jahade Daneshgahi Institute, an auxiliary branch of Tehran University (2004-).

He is the Co-author/translator of A Practical Dutch Grammar (2006). Available both in Dutch and Persian languages.[7][8]

He is known for Deciphering and explaining the names of famous kings etc. mentioned on three Persian rare carpets. See: Malool, Gholamali. Baharestan: A Doorway to Persian Rugs, Tehran, 2006, pp. 147-159.[9]
