The film is not only the medium of entertainment but it is the medium of public education, with this thought Rajdutt[1] is working in Marathi film industry since last four decades.
Early Life[edit]
Rajdutt's original name is Dattatray Ambadas Mayaalu. He became famous as "Rajdutt" , which is combination of 'Raj' in the name of Raja Paranjpe and 'Dutta' in his own name.
He was born in Dhamangaon in Amravati district. He has completed his B.com at Wardha in the G.S.College of Commerce. He is influenced by RSS from his childhood and he stared RSS seminars .As a freedom fighter he suffered 2 months and 18 days in prison. He played plays in Ganesh Utsav, Mela, School and College of Gathering. He played remarkable role in Kusumagraj's 'Duvyache Dive', Acharya Atre's 'Udyacha Sansar' and 'Sastang Namaskar' . Particularly the role of the poet in 'Sastang Namaskar' was very nice. In addition, he worked in Bal Kolhatkar's 'Vahto Hi Durvachi Judi'.
Sutubhau Dange who was a RSS campaigner in Kerala, he wrote the play. Through all his plays, he played a remarkable role. He also got a by Rajabhau Paranjape. In his college days, every Sunday, he used to participant in the Nursing Exhibition at the 'Krusthdham' Center in Gopuri near Sevagram. With the encouragement of famous writer G.T. Madkholkar, he started writing in daily 'Tarun Bharat' and in writing section of Nagpur University. This is the beginning of his journalism.
After completing his education, he stared working in the Daily Bharat newspaper of Pune. After this, he worked for two years in the editorial section of the children's magazine, 'Chandoba' in Madras.
Goa Liberation Movement[edit]
Through the inspiration of Mr. Jagannathrao Joshi, he participated in the Goa Liberation Movement. Initially, he stared protesting in Kesari's office. Then he participated in the actual Satyagraha movement. He covered several miles of distance in 10-12 hours by walking and reached to kunkunbhi from belgaon to participate in liberation movement.He Participated in Surat's Satyagraha. A Portuguese flag in front of the police station was replaced by the tricolor.At this movement police stared firing, rajdtt's colleague named Sonawane got injury in leg. Then he got on the highway and crossed the river and got medical help. At the same time Rajdatta was arrested and sentenced. There were 100 people in the prison where people can not sit and breath properly. He is the true independent soldiers who have been in the midst of such incidents. That is why he gave a message of patriotism to the youth, with a finer details from the series 'Vinayak Damodar Savarkar'.
Film Career[edit]
His life turned at Madras. While Rajabhau Paranjpe came to Madras for the film, due to his identification, Rajdatta was free to rome in AVM's studio and his relationship with the film was stared. Rajabhau Paranjape started the candidacy of AVM's during his film 'Bap Bete' . Rajdutt worked as an assistant to Rajabhau for almost 13 films. It is mainly in 'Devghar', 'Jagachya Pathivar ', 'Aadhi kalas mag paaya', 'Ha maaza marg ekla', 'Pathlaag', 'Padachaya' etc. In 1967, he started doing films independently. The first film, 'Madhuchandra' was his successful experiment; N. Dutta, who is a music composer in Hindi, has directed music for Marathi film. Also, this movie won National Film Award.
After his first movie he didn't had any film project then Bhalji Pendharkar and Lata Mangeshkar helped him and produce movie- 'Gharachi Rani'.Maharashtra Government gave the best film award for Gharchi Rani and then Rajadatta did not turn back, and in 1969, again he got award from Maharashtra Government for movie 'Apradh' and later directed 28 films. Out of 30 films, the nine films received first, the three films received second and two films received third and one film has received special state government awards. Rajdutt is the only director who has got so many awards in Marathi.
Rajdutt's performance at the national level is similar. His 'Shapit', 'Pudhach Paaul' and 'Sarja' have got the Rajat kamal for three films. Rajadatta also received Filmfare award.
Rajdutt directed films mainly for the promotion of patriotism, social issues and so many topics reached the audience.
The film 'Devki Nandan Gopala' was released in Maharashtra along with Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, on the life of Sant Gadgebaba. Also, screened in England and America. It was shown in Tashkand Festival also. The Russian Council felicitated him for the 'Shaped' film.
Rajdutt's three films got place in the Tashkand, Venice and Cork Festivals. Rajdutt also made Hindi film 'Iraya'. It featured Sharmila Tagore, Mark Zubber.

Television Field[edit]
In addition to the film, he also directed the television serial and also the direction of many tel films. The Hindi serial 'Ek Kahani', has the story of 'Gokul' is in the UNESCO Library.He directed 'In Search of Solutions', which discusses the issues related to the society, is also a series in Hindi .The former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has told Rajdutt to do this series.
The popular marathi serial 'Gotya[3]' won the 'RAPA' award for the most popular serial.
The story that yielded to a few mysteries that sparked the spell of the human mind, 'Man wadhay wadhay' was presented in a fascinating graph of historical women's lives.
Discovery of Tilak-Agarkar's thoughts presented in serial 'Marmband' .The inspiration of youth Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's series of his life was shown in a national broadcast. He directed the 10 TV serial in his career.
Short Films and Documentaries
Various subjects dealing with human life were handled by him through short films and documentaries.

Rajdutt has also made an important invention on theater along with films, series and short films. 'Anand Van Bhuvani', the first Mahanatya (Play Performed in large scale) of Maharashtra, presented by 100 actors based on Samarth Ramdas's life. It has successful 50 shows in all over Maharashtra.

Rajdutt has played an important role in many organizations.

- He was part of National Film Selection Board, he played a key role for selection of movie 'Shwas' for National Film Award.
