Rajendra Kumar Khetan is a leading industrialist of Nepal and leads the Khetan Group which has major investments in Banking and Insurance, Trading, Beverage (beer and soft drink Coca-Cola), Mining, etc.[1] It is one of the oldest business houses of Nepal, established in 1845.[2]
He is a member of Academic Senate[3] of Kathmandu University, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Portugal,[4] President of Nepal Britain Chambers of Commerce & Industry,[5][6] President of Alliance Française Kathmandu.[7] He was a member of 1st Nepalese Constituent Assembly 2008–2011.[8] He is among the richest people of Nepal with an estimated net worth of around US$ 500 million.[9][10] He and his family members (wife Sarika Khetan & daughter Sneha Khetan) are major promoters of Laxmi Bank.[11] Khetan Group[12], of which he is Chairman, has major investments in Gorkha Brewery, which is a joint venture with Carlsberg Group and is a market leader in the beer segment in Nepal with 63% market share[13] and producer of the famous Gorkha Beer.[14] The Khetan Group is also a major promoter of Bottlers Nepal Limited, which bottles and markets Coca-Cola in Nepal.[15] He is also a major promoter of two insurance companies, namely Everest Insurance and Primelife Insurance,[16] establishing him and his group, Khetan Group, as a major player in the financial market of Nepal.[17] He is also a leading investor in the Secondary Market of Nepal.[18]
He is the recipient of the Order of Prince Henry (Grande Official Da Ordem do Infante Dom Henrique) in 2003 from the Portuguese Government.[19] The Government of Nepal bestowed upon him the Samvidhan Sabha Bibhusan in 2013, Prabal Jana Sewa Shree in 2017, and Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu III in 2004.[20] In 2019, he was recognized and bestowed with the Honorary Consular Corps Nepal Award by the Foreign Minister of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali for his contribution as Dean of Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (2017–2018).[21]
