Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni, AVSM, VSM, PhD took over as Director General of Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers on 01 Oct 2025[1]. Prior to assuming the appointment of DG EME, he served as the Director General of Information System (DG IS).
Early life and education
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He is also an alumnus of Army War College, Mhow. Sahni has a dual M. Phil in Management and also a dual PhD in Defence Acquisitions' &Training Imperatives for Nation Building'.
Military life
Sahni has been at the forefront of driving smartisation[clarification needed], digitisation and automation across the entire spectrum of Indian Army[2]. He has been closely associated with spearheading the Indian Army's initiatives to integrate advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI)[3], Big data and Machine learning, into modern warfare concepts for operational Command and Control Systems[4]. Sahni has also led significant advancements in the Cyber Domain, strengthening cyber resilience, secure networks and information assurance frameworks for the Army.
Sahni has been instrumental in accelerating innovation, technology development and a progressive manufacturing ecosystem co-jointly with industry.[citation needed] Furthermore, he has championed the adoption of Robotics[5], additive manufacturing and inclusion of Industry 5.0 standards, promoting human centric, sustainable and technology-driven solutions.[citation needed]
Awards and Honours
Sahni has been conferred with the award of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal[6] and Vishisht Seva Medal and has been commended six times by the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Integrated Staff Committee and Army Commanders.[citation needed]
