Rak-Su is a British boy band from Watford who won the fourteenth series of The X Factor.[1] The group is made up of friends Ashley Fongo, Jamaal Shurland, Mustafa Rahimtulla and Myles Stephenson. After winning the show they released their winners single, the original song "Dimelo", which featured Naughty Boy and Wyclef Jean. The song reached number 1 on iTunes within hours of the final, knocking Ed Sheeran’s duet version of his song “Perfect” with Beyonce off the top. Rak-Su held five of the top six positions on the chart over the next day, including other self-penned songs "Mamacita", "Mona Lisa" and "I’m Feeling You" (their audition song) as well as the original solo version of "Dimelo". On the 10th December 2017, Myles revealed he had been dating Capital FM presenter Vick Hope for 3 months.[2]
Their winners single "Dimelo" debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart on the 8th December 2017.
Career[edit]
2017: The X Factor[edit]
Rak-Su are four-piece group consisting of childhood friends Ashley, Jamaal, Myles, and Mustafa, from Watford.[3] In 2017 they auditioned for The X Factor, they performed an original song called "I'm Feeling You", and received four yes votes from the judges. The group were mentored by Simon Cowell on The X Factor, along with fellow acts Jack & Joel, The Cutkelvins and Sean & Connor Price. They were voted winners of the Prize Fight in week 4 against Grace Davies, leading to a songwriting session with American songwriter Ali Tamposi. Following the eliminations of Jack and Joel in week 3, Sean & Conor Price in Week 4 and The Cutkelvins in Week 5, Rak-Su became Cowell's last remaining act in the competition. They made the final on the weekend of 2nd December 2017, alongside Kevin Davy White and Grace Davies. After the former was eliminated on Saturday’s show, they were in the top two with Grace and finished as the winners with over 50% of the public vote. Rak-Su are the second group to win the show after Little Mix, and the first male group to win the show. On December 3, 2017, their winners single was added to streaming services as well as being available for download immediately after the final, with profits going towards the charities Together for Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase. It placed at number 6 on the Official Singles Chart Update two days after the final. Four of their songs topped the iTunes chart during their run on the X Factor -"Mamacita", "Dimelo", "Mona Lisa" and "I’m Feeling You" - but were ineligible for the Official Chart and were not available on streaming services at that time.
