Rakan Shams Aldeen is a Syrian fashion designer and the founder of the womenswear label RAKAN. He appeared as a contestant on season 17 of the American television series Project Runway (2019) and won the Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Star Award for Womenswear in 2020.[1][2]

Early life and education

Aldeen was born in Homs, Syria. He initially studied architecture at the University of Kalamoon before moving to Lebanon to study fashion design and pattern making at Esmod–Beirut.[3]

Career

Aldeen founded his label RAKAN, producing contemporary ready-to-wear noted for architectural lines and bold volumes. The brand has operated in the United States and later in the Netherlands.[4] In 2019, he was a cast member of season 17 of Project Runway.[2] In March 2020, Christian Siriano said Aldeen joined his studio team following the show.[5] He has been profiled and interviewed in regional and international publications, discussing his Syrian upbringing and architectural influences on his work.[6][7]
