Ralf Schwieger

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ralf Schwieger was born in a Westpalia, a rural region of Germany.

Schwieger started studying perfumery at age thirty, at Roure Perfumery School (now reopened as Givaudan Perfumery School[1]) in Grasse after having finished chemistry training, which was oriented towards fragrance chemistry, in Berlin.[2]

His first fragrance for an established label, ‘Golden Moments’ by Priscilla Presley, was released in 1999 by Muehlens as a flanker for the then successful brand in Germany.[3]

Since, he has produced big-time fragrances for Yves Saint Laurent (co-creator of “Baby Doll”[4]), and Hermes (where he co-created “Eau des Merveilles”[5] and many of its best-known flankers), as well as niche perfume such as “Fils de Dieu” and “The Afternoon of a Faun” for Etat Libre d’Orange, and “Orange Sanguine” for Atelier Cologne.[6]

As a young perfumer, he took part in a perfume contest that Frédéric Malle had staged for young perfumers. Frédéric Malle sampled their perfumes one by one, blindfolded, until he reached Schwieger’s early version of what was to become Lipstick Rose, and the young perfumer was chosen to join the “greats” among those at Editions de Parfums. Lipstick Rose was released in 2000.[7]
