Ramis Movassagh (Persian: رامیس موثق‎) is a Canadian mathematical physicist of Iranian origin who lives in the US.

His research interests are quantum information, quantum computation, and quantum complexity theory. He also works on random matrix theory, and many-body systems.

He is known for the Motzkin quantum spin chain[2] (also known as the Shor-Movassagh quantum spin chain [3][4]), and his work on quantum supremacy[5][6]. He is currently a researcher at Google quantum AI[7], and runs a blog on science and mathematics [8]

Education[edit]

Movasssagh obtained his BSc in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University, where he was influenced by Roald Hoffmann[9]. He then spent 3 years at ETH Zurich, where he worked in neuroscience and mathematical physics with Reinhard Nesper and Juerg Froehlich. He obtained his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the supervision of Peter Shor.
