Ramon "Ray" Yslas

Ramon "Ray" Yslas is a Mexican-American percussionist and drummer. He has recorded and toured with artists such as Christina Aguilera, Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Patty Labelle, the Backstreet Boys, and 98 Degrees. Yslas has performed extensively for television shows including Sex and the City, The Voice and Lopez Tonight, and for films such as Zorro and The Longest Yard[1] He has been a member of the band Chicago since 2018.[2]

Background[edit]

Born in Los Angeles to parents who immigrated from Sonora, Mexico, Yslas began playing drums at a young age. He has stated that though he played in bands in high school, he didn't take music seriously. He later expanded his musicianship into percussion, which included private studying with teachers such as Cuban percussionist Luis Conte. He had previously studied at Pasadena City College and Grove School of Music.[3]
