Ramona[1], as referred to by the Los Angeles Times,[1] or the Walnut Islands[2] by the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning,[2] is an unincorporated community[2] in the eastern part of Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. This area is known locally as "unincorporated Covina Hills",[3] and "unincorporated Pomona", or simply "Covina Hills" and "Pomona". The area is not known as either Ramona or Walnut Islands by locals; the latter is the technical term used by the county government,[2] while the former was used by the Los Angeles Times in 2008.[1] This is similar to the case with Vincent, California, which is not known locally as Vincent either. The population was 4,053 according to the 2000 census.[4] A large portion of the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, also known as Cal Poly Pomona, lies within Ramona's boundaries, with the rest being located in the city of Pomona, which lies to the east. Ramona is also bordered by the cities of Covina and San Dimas to the north, Walnut to the south, and West Covina to the west.
