Rana Muhammad Fayyaz (born 10 March 1979), also known as Muhammad Fayyaz, is a Pakistani politician who has served as a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab since February 2024. He was elected from PP-49 Sialkot-VI as an independent candidate in the 2024 Punjab provincial election[1] and later joined the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N). On 30 August 2024, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation by the Government of Punjab.
Early life and education
Muhammad Fayyaz was born on 10 March 1979 in Shah Hussain, a village in Tehsil Pasrur, District Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. He is the son of Muhammad Bashir.[2]
He received his early education in Dhoda, a town in Tehsil Pasrur. Before entering politics, Fayyaz worked as a farmer and construction contractor.
Political career
Muhammad Fayyaz began his political career in local government and was elected Chairman of Union Council Dhoda in local government elections.
He contested the 2024 Punjab provincial election as an independent candidate from PP-49 Sialkot-VI. He secured 46,776 votes, defeating the Pakistan Muslim League (N) candidate Rana Afzal by a margin of 7,694 votes. After the election, he announced his decision to join the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
On 23 February 2024, he took oath as a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab[3]. On 30 August 2024, the Government of Punjab appointed him as the Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation, where he assists in matters relating to the province's irrigation sector[4].
Electoral performance
In the 2024 Punjab provincial election, Muhammad Fayyaz was elected from PP-49 Sialkot-VI as an independent candidate. He received 46,776 votes, representing approximately 34.23% of the total 144,621 votes cast in the constituency[5].
