Ranjan Banerjee
Ranjan Banerjee is Dean and Professor of Marketing at the BITS School of Management (BITSoM).[1] He was previously Dean of SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR). Prior to joining SPJIMR, he was the Founder-CEO of Renaissance Strategic Consultants.
Ranjan has co-authored a book with R Gopalakrishnan, titled *The Made in India Manager* (2018).[2] *The Made in India Manager* was recently given the Institute of Directors Corporate Book Excellence award in 2021.[3]
His work has been published in leading journals such as Harvard Business Review Online (www.hbr.org)[4], Psychology and Marketing[5], and Economic and Political Weekly.[6] He has also co-authored a chapter in the Handbook of Business to Business Marketing.[7] He was awarded the IAC Award for the 'Change Maestro and Institution Builder of the Year'.[8] He has also been nominated on the global boards of the Graduate Management Council[9] and the Principles of Responsible Management Education[10] (an initiative that is supported by the UN).
He teaches Design Thinking & Innovation in Ashoka University.[11] He has also taught at EBS Germany,[12] and SMU Singapore.[13]
Early Life
Dr. Banerjee holds a BTech from IIT Bombay, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a PhD in Management from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA.[14]
His doctoral thesis won a global award for the best dissertation in b2b Marketing from the Institute for the study of business markets, Penn State University, USA.[15]
Career
After completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta, Dr Banerjee has worked for leading FMCG companies like Asian Paints, Vadilal and Hindustan Unilever as Branch Manager/Group product Manager in Sales & Marketing verticals.[16]
In 1997, he started and became CEO of Renaissance Strategic Consultants, a training and consulting firm specialising in sales and marketing.[17] Some of the clients include Hewlett Packard, BASF, Legrand, Nokia.[18]
He joined Academia as Dean & Professor of Marketing – SP Jain Institute of Management & research in June 2015. During his tenure at SPJIMR, the institute won global innovation awards from AACSB and AMBA, and entered the Financial Times Masters in Management for the first time in 2020, ranking 36th in the world and third in India. Dr Banerjee began a second term at SPJIMR in June 2020.[19]
He joined BITS School of Management, BITSoM, in April 2021 as the Founding Dean and Professor of Marketing, where he is presently working.[20]
