Raquel Rodriguez (American Political Consultant)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Raquel Rodriguez (also known as Rachel Rodriguez) is an American political consultant based in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2020, Rodriguez became the center of a voting fraud controversy when a hidden camera report by conservative news media company Project Veritas showed her admissions and apparent involvement in "ballot harvesting."[1] At one point in the recording published by Project Veritas, Rodriguez stated, "What I do picking up those ballots when he was with me. That's illegal. I could go to jail."[2] At another point in the video, Rodriguez instructs a person not shown on camera: "And you do not let anybody else know this is what I'm doing. Because I would, if I go to prison, I do not look cute in stripes, and I will hate you forever."[3] Rodriguez worked for U.S. House Republican Candidate Mauro Garza, who denied involvement in the alleged election fraud.[4]

On January 13, 2021, the state of Texas arrested Rodriguez for election fraud, illegal voting, unlawfully assisting people voting by mail and unlawfully possessing an official ballot. The charges carry a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison.[5] Rodriguez stated that she is the biological niece of the woman she is seen on video with, and has moved to have charges dismissed on the grounds that it is not unlawful to help relatives vote.[6] The criminal prosecution of Rodriguez was still pending as of June 2021.[7]

The controversy has also generated civil litigation. A political candidate implicated by Rodriguez in the video report sued Rodriguez for defamation, alleging that she "never, ever" hired Rodriguez to harvest ballots.[8]
