Introduction:
Rasheed Yasin Abbas Al-Rabie (1st July 1931- 30 April 2012). He is an Iraqi Journalist, Poem, Editor and University Professor. He was born in Baghdad, completed his study there. Rasheed studied Theater Sciences in Bulgaria and got his bachelor’s degree from there too, also, he got the same degree in the Beauty Science from Sofia University.
In the Fifties, Rasheed Yasin was involved on the national political fields. He lived in Syria as an immigrant during the from 1955 to 1958. Rasheed worked in Bulgarian journals, also he worked at Almawqef, the Syrian Literary, Soldier Position Magazine and a Dramatic Adviser Journal, then as a consultant for technical affairs in the Department of Cinema and Theater in Iraq. After that Rasheed worked as a consultant for Arabi Horizontal Magazine. Yasin Started publishing his poems in the mid-forties. He was one of the pioneers in rhythm and structure modernization in Arabic poem. Among his collections of poetry are neglected papers, 1972, Death in the Desert, 1986, and The Sad Doll.
In 1997 Rasheed left Iraq to Yemen to work as a professor at Sana'a University. Then left to United States of America in 2004 to work as a professor of Arabic in the University of Michigan – Dearborn. He lived in St. Louis, died there, and buried in Lemay in Park Lawn Cemetery. [3][4][5][6]
His Life:
Some sources reported that, Rasheed Yasin Abbas was born in Baghdad on 1st July 1931 or on 7th January 1929, while other sources mentioned that his date of birth was not identified accurately. He is the oldest son among his six siblings. His father was a Shi'a, from the Rabi'ah Trible, and a good digger who followed up with several business ventures, including importing household goods.
[8] Rashid Yassin completed his elementary and high school education in Baghdad. His family was pushing him to study law since his distant relative was a governor minister, so they preferred him to have similar position in the government. Rasheed believed since high school that his talent was in poem, this led him to quit law school when he was on the second academic year and became political activist against Britain who were attacking Iraq at that time. Rasheed left to Syria, he worked in literary and political journalism. There he met Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri. He also met his first wife. After the Iraqi revolution in 1958 that toppled the Iraqi Hashemite monarchy Rasheed retuned back to Iraq. After that in 1961, Rasheed moved to Bulgaria and continued his study there in Theater in 1969 and got his degree on 1971. He went to Syria and divorced his first wife there, then back to Lebanon, then in 1976 and during the National war of Lebanon he returned to Iraq to remarry. Lately he completed his PHD in Bulgaria after the collapse of the communist regime.
His Career Life:
1950-1956: - Started his media career with the Popular newspaper. The following year he became responsible for the literary page in the Nabaa Baghdad daily newspaper. 1985: - H worked in the Syrian soldier magazine from 1956 until the revolution of the fourteenth of July 1958.
1963- 1986: - Worked as a translator and broadcaster for Radio Sofia in Bulgaria.
1972-1973: - Worked as an editor in the literary position magazine issued by the Arab Writers Union in Damascus. 1974-1976: - He worked as head of the cultural department in Beirut newspaper since 1989: - He worked as head of the cultural department in the university newspaper, issued by the Ministry of Higher Education. 1980-1983: - In the cultural and artistic administration, Rashid Yassin worked as head of the theatrical research and documentation department at the General Organization for Cinema and Theater in Baghdad. 1985-1988: - He became consultant in drama for the foresaid institution. 1997-2004: - Advisor to the General Organization for Cultural Affairs. - Left Iraq and hired as a professor of Arabic literature at Sana'a University, Yemen. 2005: - Worked as a professor of Arabic at the University of Michigan (Dearborn) in 2005, then retired.
- Member of the Iraqi Writers Union and an honorary member of the Lebanese Writers Union. He attended several literary conferences held in the country and had debates in the literary press on the theory of art and theater.
His Death :
Rashid Abbas Yassin died on April 30, 2012, at his home in the Santran West. He was buried in LeMay in Park Lawn Cemetery, Missouri, USA. [9] His son, Dr. Nabil Yassin said that his father was diagnosed in 2009 with progressive supranuclear paralysis.

Rasheed Translated literary and studies from English and Bulgarian languages into Arabic language. Moreover, Rasheed published his poetry, in the Arabic newspapers and magazines as well, following are some of his books:

• 2002: From the papers of Ulysses in the Journey of Loss, a collection of poetry, Lebanese House of imagination in Beirut.
• 2004: Death Knight, Poetical Work, Clinical Center for Studies and Publishing in Sana'a
• 2004: The fox that lost its tail, critical studies in poetry and poets, Abadi Center for Studies and Publishing in Sana'a
