Rassica is an Italian town in the municipality of Castel Goffredo, in the province of Mantua. Rassica and the surrounding territory have shown signs of having already been inhabited in the Middle Bronze Age through some archaeological discoveries.[2]
Town history and facts
From a document dated 1566 it is mentioned that, in the Berenzi hamlet (in the Rasichae de Berecii area), there was an oratory dedicated to Santa Maria Pomposa.[3]
In this territory, crossed by the Tartaro torrent, in the second half of the nineteenth century, the skeleton that the terramare people had killed with sticks on the forehead was found.
The priest Luigi Ruzzenenti (1838-1905), an archaeologist from Asola, discovered a settlement from the Bronze Age during excavations on a farm. Parts of ceramic vessels came to light, some decorated, two daggers and a pin.[4]
In 1980, an archaeological group from Brescia identified a Roman rural house from the 1st century AD-2nd century AD in the area, with the presence of bricks, ceramics and coins.[5]
To the south of the town used to stand the ancient Oratory of San Michele, demolished in 1719 and subsequently rebuilt.[6]
