Ratsit.se is a Swedish website run by Ratsit AB that provides credit reports about Swedish residents and companies using the Principle of public access to official records and freedom of the press enshrined in Swedish Law. A lot of information was initially provided anonymously and without charge. The service was launched on November 23 2006.[1] Today, the service provides information about residents' legal names, social security numbers, home addresses, marital status, motor vehicles, business activities, taxation information, registered dogs, as well as information about other people registered at the same address. This information is also indexed by search engines.

Ratsit estimates 150 million searches are performed on their website per year.[2] It has approximately 800,000 members and 150,000 paying customers.[2]

Controversies[edit]

The website has been subject to a number of complaints by the Swedish Data Protection Authority.[clarification needed][3][4] The site has also been found to have broken the Swedish credit report law in 2013 by providing credit reports anonymously.[5]
