Ravi Kant
Ravi Kant (born 20 July 1981, Patna, India) is an Indian-origin Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology based in Finland. He is a principal investigator leading the Pathogenomics research group at the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Helsinki. He also serves as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland, and the University of Nairobi, Kenya.[1][2][3][4][5]
Kant’s research focuses on pathogen evolution, host–pathogen interactions, and zoonotic spillover, integrating high-throughput sequencing technologies with the development of bioinformatics tools for metagenomic data analysis and pathogen detection. His work addresses the pathobiome, encompassing viruses, bacteria, and parasites, to better understand mechanisms underlying emerging infectious diseases.
He earned his PhD in Veterinary Microbiology and Epidemiology from the University of Helsinki, supervised by Willem M. de Vos, and completed postdoctoral training with Olli Vapalahti and Tarja Sironen.
