Ravi Kumar S (born 1971) is an Indian-American business executive, board member, and advisor. He is chief executive officer (CEO) and a member of the Board of Cognizant, a professional services company that digitizes products, services, and customer experiences for some of the world’s biggest companies. Before his appointment as CEO in January 2023,[1] Kumar served as the President of Infosys, where he led the global services organization and served as Chairman of the Board of Infosys BPM Ltd.

Forbes Magazine has called him a leading voice in the global conversation about the future of work.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Ravi holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Shivaji University and an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, India.

Career[edit]

The early part of Kumar’s career was spent as a nuclear scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center of India, where he worked for three years before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Consultant in 1996. He went on to serve in positions of increasing responsibility at Cambridge Technology Partners, Oracle, and Sapient (now Publicis Sapient).

In 2002, Kumar joined Infosys to run the CRM and Oracle Practices. He later became a Senior Vice President and led the Global Delivery organization in the manufacturing industry group. Over the following 13 years, Kumar held several senior leadership roles at the firm, including Group Head of the Insurance, Healthcare, and Cards and Payments unit.

In 2015, Kumar was appointed President of Infosys. In this role, he led the Global Service Lines across all industry segments, driving the digital transformation, consulting, engineering, data and analytics, cloud, and infrastructure service lines until his resignation in 2022.[3]

During his 20 years with the company, Kumar led some of the largest enterprise deals in history[3] and established himself as a thought leader on continuing education and the future of work.[4]He also developed localized talent pools in the U.S. and Europe by building consortiums with policymakers and academia.

Boards and Committees[edit]

In addition to his work at Cognizant, Kumar is a member of the Board of Directors of TransUnion[5] and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.[6] He is also currently on the Board of Governors of New York Academy of Sciences[7] and previously served the board at Digimarc.[8]

Awards and recognition[edit]

In 2023, Kumar was named among the Top 30 Asian American and Pacific Islander board members in the U.S. by BoardProspects.[9]

Personal life[edit]

Kumar describes himself as an avid traveler and Hindi movie buff who loves storytelling and single malt whiskies.[10] He is married and has two children, and daughter and a son. They live in New York City.
