Raymond Kudzawu-D'Pherdd (reimɛnd coo-jah-woo-deefɛd) is a Ghanaian geoscientist[3][4] and academic.[5] He was the General Secretary of the Ghana Institution of Geoscientists between 2016 and 2019.

He was also the General Secretary of the Accra Mining Network from 2015 to 2020 [6][7][8][9][10] [11][12][13] and became the AMN Vice President in 2020.[14][15] He was also the President of the University of Ghana Branch of IEASTE Ghana. He is currently a member of Convocation at University of Energy and Natural Resources. He is a fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) and a Member of the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP), an international academic community of researchers and teachers of mining. He is a 2016 awardee of Emerging Leaders in Africa Mining.

Early life and education[edit]

Kudzawu-D'Pherdd had his secondary education at Accra Academy and proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon for a degree in the Earth Sciences and majored in Geology. He was the President of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) University of Ghana Branch, IEASTE Ghana-Legon.[16] He later pursued a Master of Science Degree in Petroleum Geoscience also at the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Finance and Investment at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. He is also an[citation needed] alumnus of the Australia National University in Canberra,[17] University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia,[citation needed] University of Pretoria, South Africa,[citation needed] University of Ottawa, Canada,[citation needed] and the Ghana Institute of Journalism.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

He worked with Coffey Mining which is now TetraTech Coffey as field geologist, then for Sahara Natural Resources, and Gold Fields. He was with Geogamut too,[18] but now with the University of Energy and Natural Resources. He has worked as an Exploration Geologist in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal and Nigeria.[19] Till 2021, Kudzawu-D'Pherdd was also the Head of Department of Industry Value Addition, Beneficiation, ASM, Women & Youth, and Blue Economy at the Minerals Africa Development Institution (MADI) in Kampala, Uganda[20] [21][22][23][24] Kudzawu-D'Pherdd is also an extractives industry commentator [25][26] and a columnist for GhanaWeb,[27] and is currently with both the School of Mines and Built Environment[28][29][30] and the School of Geoscience [31] at the University of Energy and Natural Resources. Kudzawu-D'Pherdd is also the head of programmes at the African Mining Hall of Fame (AMHOF). [32]
