ReGroup Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that will combat veteran homelessness by providing assistance to at-risk service members as they transition from the military.[1] The organization’s mission is to “[p]rovide healthy, supportive living environments to transitioning veterans to prevent hardships.”[2]

About[edit]

Regroup was founded by Army Ranger veteran Antonio Ruiz and his partner, Stephanie Solton, the mother of an Air Force crew chief,[3] to help counter alarming trends of suicide and homelessness in the veteran population. Their idea is to identify at-risk veterans before they separate from the military, and to provide them with a place to live while they explore their options, develop skills, and ultimately deploy a sound transition plan.[2]

“Proof of Concept” Ranch[edit]

Transitioning veterans will spend up to 18 months at a Foundation ranch, where they will complete a three-phased program to prepare them for a successful post-military future.[4] The Foundation will open its first ranch in Comal County, Texas, in November 2018[5] as a “proof of concept,” demonstrating the viability and sustainability of the ReGroup Foundation’s plan. Future ranches will be built in areas with large military and veteran populations, to be close to the people the Foundation is designed to help. Each ranch will be self-sustaining, using revenue from a vertical aquaponic farm to fund operations and programs.[6]
