Reaktor (company)
Reaktor is a strategy, design and engineering company[1][2][3] with offices in New York,[4] Amsterdam,[5] Helsinki,[6][7] [8] Dubai,[9] Stockholm, Berlin, and Tokyo.[10] The company designs and builds digital products for clients including Finnair,[11] HBO,[12] Adidas,[13] Nasdaq,[14] and News Corp.
Founded in Helsinki in 2000,[15][16] Reaktor now employs over 500 people.[17] 2016 revenue amounted to $73.5M.[18] Reaktor Group’s CEO is Vesa Lauronen[19] and the firm is 100% employee-owned.
Reaktor Ventures is Reaktor’s strategic investment arm.[20][21][22][23][24] With investments ranging from tens of thousands up to one million euro,[25] Reaktor Ventures has invested in 42 different companies.[26]
In 2018, Reaktor’s subsidiary firm Reaktor Space Lab[27] launched Finland’s first commercially-built nanosatellite, Reaktor Hello World, into space.[28][29][30] The small satellite is equipped with the world's smallest infrared hyperspectral camera.[31][32][33] [34][35][36][37][38][39] The nanosatellite was built in collaboration with the people behind the launch of Finland’s first two satellites, Aalto 1 and Aalto 2.[40][41]
Reaktor held the world’s first coding championships in 2014[42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49] and runs coding schools for kids.[50][51][52][53] In 2018 Reaktor announced a partnership with the University of Helsinki, where, through a free online course,[54][55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62] 1% of the Finnish population was educated on the basics of artificial intelligence.[63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73] In 2019, the Finnish government announced it would use that same course to educate 1% of all EU citizens on AI.[74][75] The course is available in English, Finnish, Swedish[76][77][78][79][80] and Estonian[81], and will be made available in all official EU languages in 2020.[82]
