Real-Time Innovations (RTI) is a California-based Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity company.[3][4] It was self-funded and founded in 1991 by Stan Schneider.[5] The company is privately held and headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA with a worldwide presence.[6]
RTI is active in 15 industry consortia and standards organizations, ranging from AUTOSAR and SEPA to OMG.[7] The company offerings include a suite of RTI Connext DDS software based on the Object Management Group Data Distribution Services (DDS) standard. The CEO of RTI, Stan Schneider[8] serves as Vice Chair of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) Steering Committee.[6]
Overview[edit]
In 1991, RTI was founded by Dr. Stan Schneider, a robotics researcher from Stanford University. In 2003, it chaired Object Management Group efforts for DDS and was elected to a board seat in 2007. In 2014, the company joined Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), the world’s largest IoT consortium.[9]
RTI Connext DDS is a connectivity framework designed for the real-time performance and reliability requirements of autonomous Industrial Internet of Things systems. Its run-time libraries provide software developers with high-level publish/subscribe communication APIs as an alternative to writing low-level networking code. The architecture of Connext DDS Professional is completely decentralized with applications automatically discovering each other and communicating peer-to-peer. Connext DDS Secure complies with the OMG DDS Security specification. Connext DDS Cert is a safety-certifiable communications infrastructure with an available DO-178C Design Assurance Level (DAL) A Certification Package. RTI Connext DDS Micro provides a small-footprint modular messaging solution for resource-limited microcontrollers and devices that have minimal memory, Flash, CPU power or no operating system.[6]
