The Real Estate Training Institute in Mississippi was founded by Col. Lawrence “Larry” Hasbrouck, III, US Air Force in 1988. The original location was inside the Enterprise Center building on Popps Ferry Road in Biloxi. The building was an incubator sponsored by Harrison County and the city of Biloxi.

Sale of the Real Estate Training Institute to Ret. First Seargent James Sanfred Clauson, III and his wife Leslie Clauson

Dr. Larry passed the torch to Ret. First Seargent James Sanfred Clauson, III and his wife Leslie Clauson.

Jim and Leslie owned a real estate brokerage in Long Beach California before retiring to Biloxi, Mississippi in 2006.

Although the Clauson's had their real estate licenses in California, the state of Mississippi did not accept them. They had to start from Step One as if their experience didn't matter. The school they decided to attend was the Real Estate Training Institute. That is where the friendship between the Hasbrouks and the Clausons began.

While Jim and Leslie were attending their mandatory broker classes for a license in Mississippi, Larry approached Jim and Leslie and offered to sell the school to them. The transfer occurred in 2011.

2022 The Real Estate Training Institute has expanded upon the solid foundation left by the Hasbroucks. The school has four locations, online courses and Livestream courses. There are four instructors and a business manager. The main office remained in Biloxi with satellite campuses in Hattiesburg at Pearl River Community College's Woodall Center, in the Oxford Innovation Center and in Southaven on Goodman Rd. East.

The school publishes its own textbooks and can be purchased through Amazon.
