Early Life[edit]

Born in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia)[1], Rebel Rae represents a culturally diverse backdrop which sets the tone for her music, not only as an artist, but also as a songwriter. At nine years old, her Grandfather, a renowned Jazz Pianist in St. Louis, would become her driving force in pursuing music, insisting that her voice was her instrument. From there, Rae enrolled in vocal lessons.

Influenced by notable artists such as Tracy Chapman, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan, Rae strives to create songs that serve her generation — especially those who feel unseen and unheard in today’s society. She aims to make music that reflects the times and ultimately, the songs that she, herself, wants to hear. From performing regularly as a Los Angeles transplant, to penning the words of her album in London, U.K., Rae’s music is an extension of her journey through her voice, and that sound has resonated with audiences all over the world.

Career[edit]

At the DC Youth Climate Strike with Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rebel Rae performed “We The People” live on Capitol Hill[2]. As one of the largest environmental protests in history, tens of thousands of students joined together, globally, in solidarity to make their voices heard. Rebel Rae helped create the sentiment with her sound. This year, Rebel Rae did the same as she joined Actor/Comedian Tiffany Haddish at the [Stand-Up for Social Justice Black Lives Matter rally[3]] in Los Angeles, CA. The event was held at the Laugh Factory Hollywood comedy club.

With fellow D.C. artist, Ari Lennox, [ Rebel Rae joined the European leg of Lennox’s “Shea Butter Baby” tour[4]], returning to London, where Rae performed to sold-out crowds in the U.K., France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. Coming off the success of the tour, this year, Rae enamored stay-at-home audiences with a live performance in collaboration with [ Coke Studios and #Be App[5].] Among the performers were Katy Perry, Anitta (singer), DJ Khaled, Bebe Rexha, Miguel, Cast of Hamilton and Steve Aoki. As part of the roster, Rae’s performance helped to support the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement. Continuing 2020’s unique theme of live stream performances, Rebel Rae joined Roc Nation’s Harry Hudson, nine-time Grammy Winner Sheryl Crow, CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, and more, in a [ live benefit[6]] for cancer research. Pelotonia’s Legends Live! event helps the organization raise millions of dollars toward cancer research through the help of its community and partners. Rae gave a soulful rendition of her song “Let It Flow” off her debut album, The View From Down Here.

This Fall, Rebel Rae releases her debut album The View From Down Here.
