The RED NOTE New Music Festival is a week-long Festival of contemporary classical music held annually in February or March and located in Normal, Illinois. It was founded in 2008 and its events take place on the campus of Illinois State University. Past featured guest composers have included William Bolcom,[1] Chen Yi, Missy Mazzoli, Bright Sheng, David Rakowski,[2] and Steven Stucky.[3][4] Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Del Sol Quartet, and Ensemble Dal Niente are among the guest ensembles who have participated in RED NOTE.[5] Its Composition Competition has been held annually since 2011. Past winners of the Competition have included Lansing McLoskey, Ingrid Stölzel, David Kirkland Garner,[6] and Aaron Travers.[7] The guest composers also lead a Composition Workshop for graduate and undergraduate student composers. Noteworthy past participants in the Composition Workshop include composers Viet Cuong and Emily Koh.[8]
