Red X is the alias of several supervillains appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The identity was originally developed by Thomas Pugsley and Greg Klein for the Teen Titans episode "Masks", in which Dick Grayson, otherwise known as Robin, disguised himself as a villain in order to gain information on his enemy, Slade.

The second version of the character was created by Ben Jones and David Slack for the episode "X". This character was an unnamed thief usurping the identity and suit, whose identity remained a mystery through the series conclusion. Both versions from Teen Titans were voiced by Scott Menville.

Following DC's Future State and Infinite Frontier events, Red X was integrated into the main DC Universe, introducing the third Red X, Brick Pettirosso, first appearing in Future State: Teen Titans #1 (March 2021), created by Tim Sheridan and Rafa Sandoval.

Main DC Universe[edit]

Dick Grayson[edit]

At an unknown point in his hero career, Dick Grayson took up the supervillain guise of Red X, similarly to the events in Teen Titans.

Red X II[edit]

After the mantle was left behind by Grayson, an unknown criminal took up the identity of Red X, and made himself an enemy of Grayson and the Teen Titans. After disappearing and being presumed dead, he rescued an orphan child named Brick Pettirosso from Black Mask and began to raise him as his own. He radicalized Brick and sent him on a mission to destroy the Titans. When Brick failed this mission, Red X murdered his own son in cold blood in front of Nightwing, just to hurt him.

Brick Pettirosso[edit]

Brick Pettirosso was a young Metahuman orphan with electromagnetic powers living in an abusive foster home run behind the scenes by Black Mask, when he was rescued and adopted by the second Red X. Brick was told that Nightwing was his biological father and that the Titans were turning children into weapons to be sold. When the Titans opened Titans Academy in order to train the next generation of heroes, Brick was given the mission by his father to destroy it from the inside. While Brick succeeded in destroying Titans Tower, he was unable to kill the Titans themselves. For this failure, he was murdered by his father.

Powers and abilities[edit]

    • The Dick Grayson incarnation appears in a flashback in Future State: Teen Titans #1, where Dick reminisces on his time using the identity.
    • The Brick Pettirosso incarnation appears in Future State: Teen Titans, where Brick is killed in battle with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
